An opportunity has arisen for a six month fixed term Technical Officer role to support the Parks and recreation Team.

Do you have a passion for our district's parks and gardens, sports parks, coastal areas, trees, tracks, walkways and recreational spaces?

Our Technical Officers are responsible for the day to day maintenance and long-term improvement of our district's parks and coastal spaces, which enhance our community's enjoyment of the great outdoors.

This provides variety, with your time split across the three core areas of Contract Management - Customer Service - Asset Management.

What you will do

You will maintain a tight working relationship with external suppliers who are responsible for the upkeep of parks and coastal spaces and other recreational areas.

In the management of these contracts, you will audit to ensure compliance with agreed KPI's and to keep up to date with our service providers' activities in progress - along with their scheduled plans.

When customers have enquiries relating to the areas you oversee, you will be their first point of contact.

You will regularly review the overall condition of these areas, helping to ensure that our assets are renewed periodically as may be necessary, and prepared in time (and to the standard required) for seasonal variations in their use.

Key skills we are looking for

You will be actively involved in helping to ensure that we offer the best possible service to our community. So, it will be great if you have the following.

  • NZQA recognised qualification in Turf Culture, Arboriculture, Horticulture and/or Recreation Management (preferred)
  • Experience in contract management (preferred)
  • Experience in financial forecasting and management of OPEX and CAPEX budgeting
  • A ‘people person' who works well with our diverse community and enjoys contributing to the overall strength of a team
  • Exemplary time management
  • Computer literacy including MS Word & Excel
