Manager - Parks & Recreation

Whangarei, New Zealand

Can you take a collaborative approach with tangata whenua, community stakeholders and other internal departments to ensure the needs of our community is met regarding parks and recreational spaces?  Are you able to set priorities for funding and achievement of projects with the community, contractors, staff and Council, and articulate the vision for Whangārei District in partnership with tangata whenua and the community?  Do you enjoy keeping abreast of trends in the relevant fields of design, environmentalism, recreation, and local government?

If so we want to hear from you.  

The Manager - Parks & Recreation reports into the General Manager - Transport and Community Infrastructure and is responsible for leading the Parks & Recreation department.  You will work alongside other areas of the organisation in the delivery of projects and the transition to parks and recreation assets.  You will also oversee the management of operational contracts, including minor renewal projects.

Our ideal candidate will need:  

  • Leadership experience
  • A tertiary qualification in either; parks and recreation management, environmental science, planning or landscape design
  • Post qualification experience, ideally in a parks and recreation leadership role
  • Contract management experience
  • Financial forecasting, and management of OPEX and CAPEX budgeting
