Customer Service Librarian
Are you passionate about connecting people with knowledge and creating welcoming spaces for the community? At Whangarei District Council, our libraries are more than just books - they're hubs of learning, culture, and connection. We're looking for someone who loves helping others, thrives in a customer-focused environment, and wants to make a positive impact on our district.
About the role
As a Customer Service Librarian, you'll be the friendly face of our Central and Outreach branches, helping to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone who walks through our doors. Your day-to-day tasks will include supporting customers with check-ins, check-outs, and renewals; assisting with computer and photocopying enquiries; shelving and retrieving books; responding to general queries; and handling payments.
Collaboration is key in this role. You'll work closely with colleagues and the public, demonstrating our organisational values of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, and Atawhaitanga in everything you do. Flexibility is important, as weekend work will be required as part of a roster.
About you
You're a customer service superstar who genuinely enjoys connecting with people of all ages and cultures. With a friendly, intuitive approach, you can quickly read customer needs and step in to help proactively. You're confident using ICT systems and have a strong interest in knowledge, literacy and the important role libraries play in our community.
You're comfortable being on your feet and physically active throughout the day. A full drivers' licence is preferable for this role.
We encourage applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences. You don't need to tick every box to be successful in this role — we're most interested in how you can make a positive difference for our customers, our team, and the wider community. Experience gained through customer service, community engagement, education, retail, hospitality, or other people‑centred roles can be just as valuable.
