Communications and Engagement Business Partner

Here at Whangārei District Council our continually developing culture is built around principles of delivering for our customers, our tikanga, and working collaboratively with our community. To support us in our efforts we are looking for a Communications and Engagement Business Partner who will provide communications and engagement expertise to our Planning and Development Departments and other operational areas of Whangārei District Council. Additionally, they will connect people with Whangārei District Council, helping to ensure Council projects and planning effectively meet the needs of our community.

Working from our centrally located, state of the art, civic facility our ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing engagement and communications programmes and have the ability to develop effective relationships with hapū, community and internal and external stakeholder groups.

To be successful in securing this highly sought after role, you'll also need to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, marketing or social sciences
  • Knowledge (or ability to develop knowledge) of LGOIMA, Local Government Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate and mediate between the operational side of Council, the community and media.
  • A good understanding of Council's target audiences throughout the community.
  • Highly knowledgeable and skilled in using a variety of communications channels to communicate effectively
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
