Technical Services Librarian

(Part-time - 60 hours per fortnight)

Whangarei, New Zealand

Reference: 6872132

Are you passionate about customer service as well as the organised, behind‑the‑scenes work that keeps a library humming? As a Technical Services Librarian, you'll be part of the team that makes our collections discoverable, accessible, and ready for our community to enjoy. If you take pride in accuracy, enjoy working methodically, and like knowing your efforts directly support great customer experiences, this role puts you right at the heart of how our library operates.

About the role

As our Technical Services Librarian, you'll play a key part in delivering high-quality technical services at the Central Library. Your work will support the full lifecycle of our collections - from acquisitions and cataloguing through to processing, mending, inter-library loans, and maintaining accurate records and statistics. You'll work collaboratively within the Technical Team to ensure all technical operations run smoothly, while also stepping in to support basic cataloguing, classification, and indexing tasks when required.

Alongside technical responsibilities, you'll contribute to excellent customer service by assisting patrons on a rostered basis and helping create a welcoming, inclusive environment. You'll work closely with colleagues across the library and wider organisation, demonstrating our organisational tikanga and supporting continuous improvement across all library services. Like all of our librarians, you'll also assist with frontline customer service shifts, including Saturdays on a rostered basis.

About you

You're someone with a strong customer service focus and a genuine interest in library services. You bring a friendly, professional communication style, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work flexibly in a rostered environment. You're confident about using ICT systems, organised in how you prioritise tasks in a fast-paced setting, and have great attention to detail.

You enjoy problem-solving, can make sound decisions, and take a methodical approach to technical tasks - whether processing materials, supporting acquisitions, or assisting with cataloguing. You work well within a team, demonstrate cultural awareness, and value collaboration with colleagues and the wider community.
