Our Transportation team is committed to delivering quality outcomes for our community - providing investigation, design and construction of road safety, capacity, resilience and improvements. We service our district with networks stretching from Bland Bay in the north to Langs Beach in the south and from Waiotira in the west to Urquharts Bay in the east.

About the Role

Working from our purpose built, state of the art civic facility in Central Whangārei, as Manager - Transportation you'll provide outstanding leadership to the Council's Transportation Department with an annual budget of circa $100m and around thirty directly employed staff. You'll also be responsible for managing the overall funding streams via the LTP, NZTA subsidy and other external funding sources while driving a strong health and safety culture within the Department and through our supply chain

What You'll Bring

If this sounds like an opportunity you'd like to explore further we're looking for applications from candidates able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Degree qualification or similar experience in engineering.
  • A minimum of 15 years relevant leadership and engineering experience, ideally within the transportation industry
  • Conversant with NZ Transport Agency standards, guidelines and funding processes.
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, Tikanga Māori.
  • Strategic understanding of transportation principles.
  • Strong networking and consultative approach allowing establishment of strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills that can empower and motivate others to effectively deliver results.
