The Whangārei Central Library provides a full range of library services and activities for all ages, in the heart of our CBD, with branches at Kamo, Onerahi, Tikipunga, plus a mobile library. Hosting over 200,000 items, ranging from books to movies, magazines and newspapers as well as eBooks and online resources; our libraries offer community-based services our district can be truly proud of! Just last year our Central Library welcomed 373,138 visitors within its doors and hosted 211 events! You can see why it is often described as a bustling, lively, and vibrant community hub, offering an integral space to gain knowledge, sanctuary, and connection in our community.
Who are we looking for?
We have an opportunity for a customer focused librarian with a passion for delivering innovative library services to our community. This a fast-paced role and will really suit an individual with great energy, a strong social battery and a ‘can do' attitude. On a day-to-day basis you will enjoy variety in the role, whether it be assisting Library customers with their queries, delivering library services and activities, or riding the mobile library bus to visit tamariki in schools! Although our candidate need not necessarily have worked in a Library before, we would be keen to work with candidates who have a genuine interest in knowledge and literacy and the role Libraries serve in our community.
Our successful candidate will be able to confidently relate to people of all ages and cultures, whilst balancing different priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. We will be looking for candidates who can demonstrate flexibility as weekend work will be required on a rostered basis.
Key skills and competencies you will possess:
- A strong customer service ethic
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good learning agility with strong IT acumen
- An ability to work well within a team environment
- Personal vehicle with a full, clean driver licence
- Creative and innovative thinking
- Technology skills, for example familiarity with 3D printing, coding, gadgets
