Principal Adviser - Council Controlled Organisations
Whangarei District Council is seeking an experienced senior executive to join us in this newly created position reporting directly to the General Manager - Strategy & Democracy. Your main purpose in this role will be to foster an effective governance and reporting relationship between the Council and its Council Controlled and Council Organisations (CCO/CCTO/COs), focusing on upskilling these entities through professional advice and continuous improvement. This includes coordinating and advising on compliance with legislative reporting processes and ensuring adherence to Council reporting requirements relevant to the individual CCO/CCTO/CO.
If you are keen to be considered for this opportunity, you'll need to possess demonstrated experience in a comparable role with governance and relationship management being a key component, along with highly effective communication skills and great facilitation and mediating skills to manage the flow of information between CCOs and Council.
In addition, you'll ideally be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:
- Governance & Leadership
- 7-10 years in a senior executive leadership role
- Experience directing and influencing governance entities
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) application in a local government setting
- Communication & Relationship Management
- Highly effective communication, facilitation, and mediation skills
- Ability to articulate key points from reports clearly
- Technical & Administrative Skills
- Strong understanding of organisational systems and processes
- Project management experience
- Strong administration and exceptional written/verbal skills
- Ability to explain technical processes in plain language
