Capital Works Lead

About the role

This position requires someone who would think analytically, plan and execute capital works and operations for our district.

The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership to a team of professionals managing critical services for our community.

Within this role you are expected to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the assets needs are addressed timely and appropriate funding is available either through Council funding or proactively looking for appropriate grants. Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering acceptable for "Professional Engineer" membership, or equivalent experience is required.

About you

We are seeking a proactive, confident self-starter who can work under pressure. You will have well-developed communication skills with a strong customer service focus. You are enthusiastic, a big picture thinker, solution focused and self-motivated. Your innate ability to manage time will prove invaluable along with your experience working in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook) and RAMM.

Your commitment to make a positive difference, pragmatism and political astuteness will see you succeed in this role. Your ability to take both customers and your team on a journey with you is critical. There will be times when hard decisions and difficult conversations need to take place, and we're looking for someone who can approach these with tact and diplomacy. Your background is likely to be in contract/project management and you will have a strong team-based approach and collaboration skills with the ability to engage, build and maintain strong relationships at all levels. You'll be known for developing and mentoring your team, and creating a positive team environment. Ideally, you'll be working in the roading/construction industry and have some experience/knowledge of NZ's roading regulations. You will lead by example with a discipline for housekeeping to ensure record keeping and transparency of evidence-based decision making is kept up to date.
