About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Building Control Officer to join our Inspections team. In this role, you will deliver expert advice and inspection functions across our district, playing a pivotal role in ensuring building inspections are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, building codes, building consent authority's policies, and other legislative requirements.
- Make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and information databases to contribute to Council's continued status as an accredited Building Control Authority.
- Support customers in understanding the building code and Council processes by providing accurate and timely advice.
- Conducting remote building inspections to enhance efficiency and flexibility for our team and customers.
About You:
Ideally, you are an experienced inspector with current competency (Res 1-3/Com 1-3). However, we are also keen to hear from those interested in growing a career in Building Controls. You should have experience in a similar building-related role, sound judgment, and confidence in your decision-making skills. Your extensive knowledge of building compliance allows you to balance customer satisfaction with ensuring buildings comply with the NZ Building Code. You excel at building relationships and have a natural rapport with builders and community members on site.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Current working knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and the NZ Building Code.
- Qualification in (or working towards) a relevant course of tertiary study for Building Control Officers - reg18.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Building Act and Building Code.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret plans and specifications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service.
- Ability to communicate technical issues and concepts clearly.
- High level of competence in the use of technology.
- Adaptability to quickly handle challenges.
- Ability to relate well to others and naturally defuse situations.
- Desire to be on the road, traveling to various inspection sites during the day - with a current, clean, valid NZ driver's license.
