Development Engineer

It is an exciting time here at Whangarei District Council as our district continues to grow and we are continuously working to strengthen our strategic partnerships and enhance service provision to our community. To support our organisation in achieving its objectives and provide technical engineering services relating to new development infrastructure we are looking for an experienced Development Engineer to work within our Infrastructure Development Department.

To be successful in this role you will be required to write technical reports as part of the RMA process, liaise effectively between multiple departments and take responsibility for checking and approving engineering plans submitted by developers ensuring they meet the engineering standards and any conditions of resource consent. You will also go out on site and meet with contractors and developers to check developments against approved plans.

To be considered for this position candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans
  • Experience and a good understanding of on-site construction practice
  • Sound understanding of on-site infrastructure development
  • Effective facilitation skills
  • Ability to work methodically and efficiently and to set and meet appropriate standards and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate technical information with a varied and broad range of stakeholders
  • Strong customer focus
  • Effective problem solving skills and ability to make sound, well considered decisions in a timely manner
  • Strong report writing skills

A basic understanding of the Resource Consent process is also beneficial but not essential.

In addition, applicants will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to relate well to others and have a desire to be part of a progressive, hardworking and fun team.
