It's a great time to come and work with the Whangarei District Council. Our district continues to grow and we're busy implementing changes and working on new initiatives aimed at better serving our community. Our continually developing culture is built around principles of delivering for our customers, our tikanga, and working collaboratively with our community. To support us in this phase in our development we are looking for a Rates Administrator who will carry out both land and water rates billing and administration duties ensuring processes/policies/legislative requirements are followed and tasks completed within required timeframes. This will include communicating and providing advice to external and internal customers/clients regarding all aspects of land and water rates accounts and processing billing and invoices, identifying and rectifying any anomalies in line with established process and procedures.

The successful candidate will undertake reconciliations and provide reports, both regular and ad-hoc. Maintaining a current and working knowledge of relevant acts and policies pertaining to rates administration is essential along with ensuring processes are carried out with a view to maximise efficiency, accuracy and good internal control.

Based in our new purpose built Civic Centre this role would be perfect for candidates able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to deal with customers over potentially sensitive matters in an empathetic and professional manner.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong IT skills in a variety of software applications.
  • A positive attitude.
  • A minimum of 5 years in an administration role with a strong customer service element.

At Whangarei District Council we take our reputation as a lifestyle destination seriously and consider a range of flexible working and life balance options for those that want to work in a professional and progressive environment while still having the time to take advantage of everything our district has to offer. In addition, our employment package includes Health Insurance, Life Insurance, payment of a professional membership, continuous development opportunities and an active social club plus much more.

Whangarei is a district on the rise. It is Northland's only city and largest commercial centre. Nestled between the forest clad hills at the heart of the beautiful Whangarei Harbour, nowhere in the district is more than 40 kilometres away from our spectacular coastline. For many, commuting to WDC's CBD location is a breeze.
