(6 Months Fixed Term)

Whangarei, New Zealand

It is an exciting time here at Whangarei District Council as our district continues to grow, we are continuously working to strengthen our strategic partnerships and enhance service provision to our community and we are eagerly awaiting the move into the fabulous Civic Centre.

To support us in this transition into our new premises we are seeking a Facilities Maintenance person to work with our Business Support Team in ensuring Council properties are effectively maintained via a combination of reactive maintenance and implementation of pre-planned maintenance programmes. To do this successfully will require the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with contractors ensuring work carried out is to a high standard and meets delivery timeframes

If successful in attaining this position you will hold responsibility for basic maintenance and repair of allocated Council properties, including interior, exterior and vital services, responding to Health and Safety matters and staff requests around modification of the physical work environment. This will require you to perform a variety of routine maintenance, handyman type repairs and liaise with contractors to ensure facilities are available for use and maintained in a safe and clean condition.

Does this sound like a role you'd be interested in? If so we'd love to hear from you if you are able to demonstrate you can fulfil the following criteria:

  • A background in trades and ability to carry out a range of building maintenance activities
  • Experience in property maintenance management.
  • Basic Project Management skills
  • Competent IT skills - ability to use a variety of business applications.
  • Ability to manage and engage with contractors.

Good working knowledge of Property assets and effective preventative maintenance.

Ability to adapt to a way of working that embraces Organisational Culture and associated Tikanga

At Whangarei District Council we take our reputation as a lifestyle destination seriously and consider a range of flexible working and life balance options for those that want to work in a professional and progressive environment while still having the time to take advantage of everything our district has to offer.

Whangarei is a district on the rise. It is Northland's only city and largest commercial centre. Nestled between the forest clad hills at the heart of the beautiful Whangarei Harbour, nowhere in the district is more than 40 kilometres away from our spectacular coastline. For many, commuting to WDC's CBD location is a breeze.

There's a lot that'll make you 'Love it Here!'
