Senior Curator/Manager - Whangarei Art Museum
Whangarei Art Museum Trust (WAMT) is going through an exciting phase, currently operating an existing dual-gallery public facility and due to start construction in 2018 on the Hundertwasser Art Centre, both located in Whangarei's Town Basin.
The Trust are looking for a new senior team leader with demonstrable management and curatorial skills to operate the existing Whangarei Art Museum (WAM) facility, staff and collection. The fixed-term contract is designed to ensure the incumbent has the opportunity to be considered for an extended role when the new Hundertwasser Art Centre facility becomes operational.
The purpose of the position is to:
- Effectively direct the management of WAM to meet all operational, budget, reporting and planning responsibilities
- To promote and contribute to the overall good standing of WAM in the community it serves and the wider art sector it operates in.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent visual/fine arts knowledge plus curatorial theory and practice
- Skill in management of staff
- Ability to develop quality relationships with all stakeholders
- Ability to communicate recommendations and reports orally and in writing
- Strong networks within the museum's community nationally.
